- Side effects:
- Stomach or digestion problems :Garlic can irritate the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Use with caution if you have stomach or digestion problems.
- Garlic might prolong bleeding :Stop taking garlic at least two weeks before a scheduled surgery.
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding :Garlic is unsafe when used in medicinal amounts in pregnancy and breast-feeding. There isn’t enough reliable information about the safety of using garlic on the skin if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side, and avoid use.
- Caution :
- Garlic is a very potent medicinal herb. Take no more than three cloves a day (especially if taken raw). One or two cloves daily is sufficient for you to enjoy all the health benefits it has to offer.
- As garlic has a blood-thinning effect, do not take it with other anti-coagulant drugs. Avoid taking large quantities of garlic. Though rare, high doses of garlic can trigger some health problems in some people causing anaemia, weight loss, excessive gas, diarrhoea or asthma.
